Inflammation COVID Long-Haulers Autoimmune Disease

Do you suffer from:

  • Migraines
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Acid Reflux
  • Heartburn
  • Arthritis
  • Chronic Aches and pains
  • Fatigue
  • Depression, stress and anxiety
  • Constant burning in your intestinal and digestive tract?

Chances are they are all related to one root cause – and that is inflammation. When the issue is not resolved, symptoms only intensify and inflammatory conditions spiral down deeper and deeper into the muscles, tissues, bones, joints and eventually to the cellular level.

What are Symptoms of Inflammation?

Inflammation is a sign of stress in the body as well as an attempt to heal. It can begin anywhere in the body- depending on genetically predisposed areas of weakness, trauma from accidents throughout a lifetime or as the result of a build up of toxins or pathogenic exposures. Think of inflammation as an out of control forest fire in the body. The key to inflammation is getting it under control so symptoms cease to persist and the body can use inflammation for its intended purpose- to heal. In other words, think of inflammation, when it is working for you to help you heal effectively, as a controlled burn.

Often the first signs of inflammation are aches and pains in muscles, joints or all over. Arthritis is a good example and many health practitioners feel that the discomfort comes from toxic buildup in the joints. If not addressed at the time, the immune system becomes weakened if fighting the discomfort and the spiral cycles down to heightened pain sensitivity and stiffness which may also eventually manifest as fibromyalgia. Pain in the soles of the feet, also known as plantar fasciitis, is another example.

When the spiral down effect continues, and the body is on constant alert fighting off the aches and pains and fatigue sets in, which is the next step in the inflammatory process.

This example is no different than putting in a full day’s work and coming home exhausted. Fatigue is a natural consequence when the cells in your body are constantly busy secreting large volumes of antibodies as a defense mechanism.

Chronic allergies can develop including rhinitis as well as skin allergies such as psoriasis and eczema.

Allergic reactions are the result of your immune response to normally harmless substances such as grass, pollen or food.

And the downward spiral continues.

When the body is in continual defense mode, it can no longer absorb and eliminate the burden and as a defense mechanism to protect the body it begins to store the toxins in fat cells. And boom, we now become overweight – or have a warehouse for inflammatory toxins.

Unfortunately the inflammatory toxins may lead to insulin resistance, which leads to blood sugar imbalance which then leads to diabetes, making  losing weight extremely difficult.

As of 2018, obesity prevalence in the US increased from 30.5% to 42.4%. Recent studies have shown poorer outcomes for obese people with infectious diseases such as SARS COV-2.

Autoimmune Disease

We hear the term… but what does it mean? Simply put… the body spirals downward and begins to fight itself. The defense mechanism is weakened and inflammation again is a primary reason. Common symptoms are pain, fatigue, and poor quality of sleep.

There are now 81 different confirmed autoimmune diseases, with another 20 on the waiting list suspected to be autoimmune in nature.

Autoimmune diseases include psoriasis, most thyroid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s disease are included in the list.

Most people do not even realize their chronic conditions are autoimmune in nature… the sign of an overworked immune system and excessive inflammation. Many people also assume that all is well if they test negatively for an autoimmune condition, not realizing it could take them years with symptoms to produce enough antibodies to show up on a blood test.

But Wait There’s More!

As the downward spiral continues, the body continues to weaken and becomes more prone to infections which are a common cause of inflammation and may become chronic in nature when they linger.  Some infectious viruses and bacteria may linger in your body for years, chronically stimulating your immune system and depleting vital cellular nutrients while releasing even more toxins into the bloodstream. An example of this is what is happening with “COVID Long-Haulers”. This process can happen with exposure to any pathogen and the immune system is overloaded. In these cases, the pathogen was the “final straw that broke the camel’s back.”

There is Good News!

“COVID Long Hauler” syndrome like many other chronic inflammatory and auto-immune conditions can be handled. The downward spiral of chronic illness can be reversed by functional medical practitioners who understand the role of nutritional supplementation with organic whole food and herbal supplements used at the right time to create a healing response in the body.
