“Symptom management isn’t healing.”
Sharp mind. Big goals. A business to run. From the outside, Josh Koepp looked like he had it handled. But for five years in his early 20s, he lived with fear and anxiety so severe that he couldn’t ride in an elevator, get on an airplane, or sit in a car unless he was driving. In this episode of The Resiliency Method® The Truth About Healing Podcast, Dr. Erika Schultz sits down with Josh Koepp, founder of Valor Men’s Coaching, to talk about the root-cause journey that restored his focus, clarity, and drive.
A Health-Conscious Start, and Then Five Years of Fear
Josh grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in a household that ate whole foods and avoided processed sugar, long before “clean eating” was popular. Even so, his early 20s brought a period of anxiety that limited his daily life. Instead of reaching for a medication to quiet the symptoms, he chose to look for what was driving them. That decision shaped both his own healing and the coaching work he does with men today.
Looking Beneath the Anxiety
Dr. Erika explains how their work together addressed toxic load, vagus nerve function, and thymus and immune health, patterns that can show up clinically as anxiety and OCD-type overthinking. Over time, his care moved into deeper “phase three” work that targets brain and nervous system function at a level most clinicians never reach.
A Custom Build, Not a Spec House
Josh describes The Resiliency Method® as a personalized, evolving process rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol. He compares it to a land developer mapping out a master plan, or the difference between buying a spec home and building a custom one. Each phase was planned and explained ahead of time, so even when new layers of healing came up, the process felt empowering instead of frustrating.
Clearing the Fog
One of Josh’s biggest wins was the end of a persistent brain fog that had dulled his sharpness and productivity. With that clarity back, he gained the agility to manage a multifaceted coaching business and a heavy travel schedule. Dr. Erika connects this to a pattern she sees often in high-performing, entrepreneurial men: strong cognitive gifts paired with brain fog, anxiety, or ADHD-type focus issues that need tailored brain optimization.
Common Sense Over Biohacking
Josh isn’t chasing the newest gadget. He prefers common-sense, proactive health strategies, and he believes understanding why the body is out of balance matters more than the latest fix. He also counts choosing a trusted practitioner among his most important decisions. He kept that relationship going through moves from Michigan to Colorado to Arizona, continuing his work with Dr. Erika remotely.
From Reactive to Proactive
Josh closes with a challenge for every listener. The better question isn’t “How do I make this symptom go away?” It’s “What am I willing to change now to avoid a dire health outcome later?”
