Bulletproof Coffee
Bulletproof Coffee Recipes – Guest Post by Emily Moore
With the weather getting cooler I start craving my ultimate vice — hot coffee in the mornings. The longer nights and chillier mornings make me want to carry something warm around the house while I wake up. Unfortunately, caffeine can give me the jitters, and if I don’t regulate my coffee intake, I drink way too much. This is why I am so grateful for the amazing discovery of bulletproof coffee! It is the perfect way to get your coffee fix in the mornings and feel a much more balanced, sustained energy throughout the day. Another great thing about it is that it’s pretty versatile, so you can adjust the recipe to your personal preference!
Here are a few suggested ways to create your own favorite bulletproof morning:
Traditional Bulletproof Coffee:
8 oz. brewed regular coffee, decaf or your favorite tea
1-2 T. grass-fed, unsalted butter or ghee
1-2 T. MCT oil or coconut oil
Dairy Free Recipe:
8 oz brewed coffee (decaf is fine)
1 T. hemp hearts
1 T. cacao butter (or coconut butter)
1 T. MCT oil or coconut oil
1 T. collagen powder
Instructions:
Brew coffee. Add to blender with other ingredients and blend on high for one minute.
Seasonal Variation:
8 oz. brewed regular coffee, decaf, or tea
1 T full-fat coconut milk
1 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1 T. pumpkin puree
1 T. MCT oil or coconut oil
1 T. collagen powder
Instructions:
Brew coffee. Add to blender with rest of ingredients, blend on high for one minute. Enjoy!
Notes:
If coffee is not part of your diet, chai tea is a great alternative
While the original recipe calls for butter, I find that avoiding dairy helps my stomach be more receptive to the high fat content in bulletproof coffee, if you want to add butter, I suggest going for a high quality grass-fed ghee!
Collagen powder gives your coffee a nice creamy texture while adding a bit of protein!
Sometimes the hemp hearts can get grainy and settle in the bottom of the cup, if this bothers you, simply replace the hemp hearts with 1 T. of your favorite unsweetened nut butter!
Don’t have MCT oil? Coconut oil is totally fine!
Want it sweeter? Add 2-3 drops of liquid stevia
Play around with different ingredients and flavors:
1 tsp. cacao nibs
1-2 tsp. cinnamon, nutmeg, or turmeric powder
2-3 tsp. gingerbread spice
vanilla extract
stevia
Get creative and enjoy!
