The Good, The Bad and The Glyphosate
It’s springtime. What does that mean? Your neighbors, local farmers, towns and counties are out fertilizing their gardens, fields, school yards and open spaces with herbicides. The most well known and commonly used is Monsanto’s Roundup containing glyphosate- it’s now manufactured and sold by many companies and in hundreds of products. (Green Matters What Foods Have Glyphosate?)
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA) – glyphosate is a “widely used herbicide that controls broadleaf weeds and grasses and has been registered as a pesticide in the U.S. since 1974.” (USRTK: Glyphosate Fact Sheet: Cancer and Other Health Concerns)
Of course, the EPA stands by its studies and states the herbicide is safe to use without health risks to adults or children.
However, it does not take much research to find other credible sources who are raising concerns about the use of the pesticide. A study published in the National Library of Medicine, PubMed cited that in 2015 the World Health Organization reclassified glyphosate as a probable carcinogenic to humans.
What is Glyphosate?
Glyphosate, is a synthetic herbicide patented in 1974 by the Monsanto Company and is now manufactured and sold by multiple companies in hundreds of products, Glyphosate is best known as the active ingredient in Roundup-branded herbicides, and the herbicide used with “Roundup Ready” genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Genetically engineered herbicide-tolerant crops account for about 56% of global glyphosate use. In the US, no pesticide has come remotely close to such intensive and widespread use. (USRTK: Glyphosate Fact Sheet: Cancer and Other Health Concerns)
Agricultural commonly having exposure to glyphosate include corn, cotton, canola, soybean, sugar beet, alfalfa, berry crops, brassica vegetables, bulb vegetables, fruiting vegetables, leafy vegetables, legume vegetables, cucurbit vegetables, root tuber vegetables, cereal grains, grain sorghum, citrus crops, fallow, herbs and spices, orchards, tropical and subtropical fruits, stone fruits, pome fruits, nuts, vine crops, oilseed crops, and sugarcane.
All of these products are in our grocery stores, pantries and our refrigerators.
A 2017 study found that Americans’ exposure to glyphosate increased approximately 500 percent since Roundup Ready GMO crops were introduced in the US in 1996. (USRTK: Glyphosate Fact Sheet: Cancer and Other Health Concerns)
Fast Tracked with No Long-Term Studies on Human Health
Just like other drugs and products fast-tracked to the market, where long-term studies on efficacy and safety have not been conducted, glyphosate has been associated with cancer and other health concerns.
In March 2019, Monsanto lost a lawsuit to Edwin Hardeman, who claimed Roundup — the main ingredient which is glyphosate — caused his non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After a three-year long lawsuit, Monsanto was charged and ordered to pay more than $80 million in damages, There are 11,000 more cases in the pipeline.
In years past, we all accepted that chemical-laden pesticides and herbicides were safe. Many children ran down the road after tractor spraying DDT on to crops. Other farmers stood out in their fields while planes flew above spraying pesticides on their crops. In fact, many suburban neighborhoods are subjected to spraying during the summer to reduce the mosquito population.
But have we seriously ever questioned the safety of these chemical applications on our foods, lands, recreation areas and open spaces where our children play?
We have all heard about the decline in our bee population, but have we associated that with pesticides?
Are we just accepting that our produce and other foods are widely contaminated by this pesticide?
Moms Across America Standing Up & Speaking Out
Fortunately a large advocacy, grassroots organization, called “Moms Across America” with tens of thousands of followers on social media, has been on the forefront of educating consumers, the media, and state and federal legislators about the environmental and health dangers associated with glyphosate.
In January of this year, they published an article about a recent study showing that glyphosate damage is generational. The study cited that the germline (sperm and female eggs), in this case in female rats, are harmed by glyphosate “affecting the health and viability of future generations.” Scientific Reports: Assessment of Glyphosate Induced Epigenetic Transgenerational Inheritance of Pathologies and Sperm Epimutations: Generational Toxicology
What Can You Do?
- Do your research.
- Educate friends, family and neighbors about the dangers of glyphosate.
- Protect your children and yourself from exposure to aerial spraying or neighbors using Roundup as a weed killer in their gardens.
- Use organic herbicides on your lawns and gardens.
- Be aware of the products that contain glyphosate
- Purchase certified organic foods which have stricter regulations about farming proximity to lands using chemical pesticides.
What Can We Do?
Not many people are aware that for every toxic exposure, the body needs nutrients to fend off an ongoing attack on the system. Over time, the process becomes exhausting… and we get sick. But we never think about revitalizing and rebuilding our nutritional reserves. Replacing the vital nutrients, vitamins and minerals our body needs to function optimally is vital to regaining our health.
This is what the professionals at Paramount Wellness offer. They are the only clinic in the Denver area providing a much needed assessment tool to the community called “Nutrition Response Testing”.

What is Nutrition Response Testing?
Nutrition deficiency and chronic degenerative changes have become common and accepted as normal. Due to increased stress, a diet that no longer resembles what our genetic coding was designed to utilize, and toxic exposure that exceeds normal abilities to maintain human health has encountered unprecedented challenges.
In the past, a medical consumer could go to their doctor and walk away with a clear diagnosis. Now, the diagnosis is no longer clear cut, more testing is needed, the results skewed, while the patient becomes sicker and sicker due to chemical overload and toxicity. Too many times a patient is even told that their symptoms are all in their head and are given a prescription for an antidepressant.
Thankfully nutritional therapy has developed as a way to support human health in our current landscape.
With the use of whole food supplements, homeopathy, herbs and cutting edge cellular repair products we can precisely support areas in the body damaged by chemical toxicity. Using noninvasive muscle testing the professionals at Paramount Wellness can determine the nutritional support your body needs to detox and to function optimally. This clinically proven system may be quite different than any other healing practice you have experienced. The process is not an overnight fix…but we do know that in 4 to 6 weeks most of our clients see and feel a notable difference in their health.
We Test Your Body’s Neurological Reflexes
Your neurological reflexes are the body’s way of telling us what and how your nervous system is doing – as it is the nervous system’s responsibility to regulate the body’s functions for each and every organ.
You will be asked some questions before and during the testing. The actual procedure is simple and direct, with your body providing the feedback needed. The testing includes organs, glands, joints, muscles, etc. These reflexes are tested on the surface of the body and then the findings are analyzed. We use the extraordinary properties of the human cells and tissues to bring about healing and change…exactly as nature intended.
Dr. Erika Schultz, DACM, LAc, is an Advanced Trained Nutrition Response Testing Practitioner
Dr. Erika is the most advanced trained practitioner in Nutrition Response Testing ℠ in the Denver Metro area and works alongside Lyric Turner, a Certified Nutrition Response Testing Practitioner and mentored by Dr. Erika. Either practitioner will complete a full body scan to properly assess each of your reflexes. Energy flows exist between all parts and organs of the body. These flows can become disrupted for a variety of reasons. This disruption is easily discovered and properly handled with our testing. Chronic health issues like allergies and asthma can be addressed at the root cause- which may be unique to each individual. Handling chronic health issues becomes more personalized and efficient in this manner.
Our mission is to support our clients in living well and being well.
